iPhone 15 Screen Sizes

Everyone gets the dynamic island. Here’s a recap of what’s new with the 2023 iPhone 15 screen sizes.

The New Models in a Nutshell

As in previous years, Apple has discontinued the iPhone 14 Pro models and added features to the base iPhone 15 models. All four models now have the dynamic island which gives us only two screen sizes and resolutions:

iPhone 15 6.1", iPhone 15 Plus 6.7", iPhone 15 Pro 6.1", iPhone 15 Pro Max 6.7"

The base models match the screen resolutions of the pro models but are missing ProMotion and the Always-on display. All models now have USB-C connectors, but only the Pro models support USB-3 (10Gbp/s) transfer speeds. The Pro models also gain the new Action button and use Titanium instead of Stainless steel.

iPhone 15

The iPhone 15 gains some of the features of the now discontinued iPhone 14 Pro such as the dynamic island, and the A16 Bionic chip.

  • A16 Bionic chip (6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine)
  • Display: 6.1" Super Retina XDR OLED
  • Screen resolution (points): 393 x 852
  • Native resolution (pixels): 1179 x 2556 (460 ppi)
  • Native Scale factor: 3x
  • Portrait size classes: w: Compact, h: Regular
  • Landscape size classes: w: Compact, h: Compact

Adding the dynamic island gives the iPhone 15 the same 54 point high status bar as the Pro models. Note, as with the Pro models, that the top safe area inset is 59 points reducing the height of the safe area in portrait to 759 points:

  • Safe Area Insets (portrait): top: 59, bottom: 34, left: 0, right: 0
  • Safe Area Insets (landscape): top: 0, bottom: 21, left: 59, right: 59

iPhone 15 Plus

Other than the larger screen size (and battery life) the iPhone 15 Plus shares the same specs as the iPhone 15.

  • A16 Bionic chip (6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine)
  • Display: 6.7" Super Retina XDR OLED
  • Screen resolution (points): 430 x 932
  • Native resolution (pixels): 1290 x 2796 (460 ppi)
  • Scale factor: 3x
  • Portrait size classes: w: Compact, h: Regular
  • Landscape size classes: w: Regular, h: Compact

The iPhone 15 Pro keeps the same 6.1" display as the iPhone 14 Pro. It gains the A17 Pro chip, an action button, and USB 3 transfers via the new USB-C port:

The Complete List of iPhones (and an iPod)

  • 4" (320 x 568 @2x)

App Store Screenshots

The screenshot requirements in App Store Connect have not changed for the new device sizes. You need to upload at least a 6.7" (1290 x 2796 pixel) or a 6.5" (1242 x 2688 pixel) screenshot for devices with 5.8" displays and greater. For smaller devices you need at least a 5.5" (1242 x 2208 pixel) screenshot. These are scaled for the remaining sizes you don’t supply.
