iPhone 14 Screen Sizes

The notch is being replaced by the dynamic island. Here’s a recap of what’s changed with the 2022 iPhone 14 screen sizes.

The New Models in a Nutshell

There’s no replacement for the 5.4" iPhone 13 mini. Instead we have two standard iPhone 14 models and two iPhone 14 Pro models at 6.1" and 6.7":

iPhone 14 6.1", iPhone 14 Plus 6.7", iPhone 14 Pro 6.1", iPhone 14 Pro Max 6.7"

The big change is with the Pro models. As well as an Always-On display the sensor housing notch has now become what Apple calls a “Dynamic Island” that expands to show notifications and activities.

iPhone 14

The iPhone 14 is an incremental improvement to the iPhone 13. It has the same screen dimensions and still uses the A15 Bionic chip, albeit with one more GPU core and a “photonic” engine.

  • A15 Bionic chip (6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine)
  • Display: 6.1" Super Retina XDR OLED
  • Screen resolution (points): 390 x 844
  • Native resolution (pixels): 1170 x 2532 (460 ppi)
  • Native Scale factor: 3x
  • Portrait size classes: w: Compact, h: Regular
  • Landscape size classes: w: Compact, h: Compact

iPhone 14 screen dimensions

The status bar is 47 points high which gives the following safe area insets:

  • Safe Area Insets (portrait): top: 47, bottom: 34, left: 0, right: 0
  • Safe Area Insets (landscape): top: 0, bottom: 21, left: 47, right: 47

iPhone 14 Plus

Other than the larger screen size (and battery life) the iPhone 14 Plus shares the same specs as the iPhone 14.

  • A15 Bionic chip (6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine)
  • Display: 6.7" Super Retina XDR OLED
  • Screen resolution (points): 428 x 926
  • Native resolution (pixels): 1284 x 2778 (458 ppi)
  • Scale factor: 3x
  • Portrait size classes: w: Compact, h: Regular
  • Landscape size classes: w: Regular, h: Compact

iPhone 14 Plus screen dimensions

The status bar is 47 points high which gives the following safe area insets (same as the iPhone 14):

  • Safe Area Insets (portrait): top: 47, bottom: 34, left: 0, right: 0
  • Safe Area Insets (landscape): top: 0, bottom: 21, left: 47, right: 47

iPhone 14 Pro

The iPhone 14 Pro keeps a 6.1" display. The big differences are the always-on display and the reworking of the top notch to what Apple is calling a Dynamic Island.

  • A16 Bionic chip (6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine).
  • Display: 6.1" Super Retina XDR OLED with ProMotion, Always-On display, and Dynamic Island.
  • Screen resolution (points): 393 x 852
  • Native resolution (pixels): 1179 x 2556 (460 ppi)
  • Native Scale factor: 3x
  • Portrait size classes: w: Compact, h: Regular
  • Landscape size classes: w: Compact, h: Compact

iPhone 14 Pro screen dimensions

The iPhone 14 Pro screen is 3 points (9 pixels) wider and 8 points (24 pixels) taller than the similar sized iPhone 13 Pro. The status bar also increases from 47 to 54 points high, but note that the top safe area inset is 59 points. This reduces the height of the safe area in portrait, compared to the iPhone 13 Pro, by 4 points from 763 points to 759 points:

  • Safe Area Insets (portrait): top: 59, bottom: 34, left: 0, right: 0
  • Safe Area Insets (landscape): top: 0, bottom: 21, left: 59, right: 59

iPhone 14 Pro Max

The iPhone 14 Pro Max shares the same specs with the iPhone 14 Pro but with a larger 6.7" display.

  • A16 Bionic chip (6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine).
  • Display: 6.7" Super Retina XDR OLED with ProMotion, Always-On display, and Dynamic Island.
  • Screen resolution (points): 430 x 932
  • Native resolution (pixels): 1290 x 2796 (460 ppi)
  • Scale factor: 3x
  • Portrait size classes: w: Compact, h: Regular
  • Landscape size classes: w: Regular, h: Compact

iPhone 14 Pro Max screen dimensions

The iPhone 14 Pro Max screen is 2 points (6 pixels) wider and 6 points (18 points) taller than the iPhone 13 Pro Max screen. The status bar also increases from 47 to 54 points high, but note that the top safe area inset is 59 points. This reduces the height of the safe area in portrait, compared to the iPhone 13 Pro Max, by 6 points from 845 points to 839 points:

  • Safe Area Insets (portrait): top: 59, bottom: 34, left: 0, right: 0
  • Safe Area Insets (landscape): top: 0, bottom: 21, left: 59, right: 59

The Complete List of iPhones (and an iPod)

By my count there are 11 different iPhone screen sizes that you need to support with a minimum deployment target of iOS 13 (new models in bold):

    iPhone 14 Pro Max

  • 6.7" (428 x 926 points @3x)

  • 6.5" (414 x 896 points @3x)
iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone XS Max

  • 6.1" (393 x 852 points @3x)

    iPhone 11, iPhone XR

  • 5.8" (375 x 812 points @3x)
iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone XS, iPhone X

  • 5.5" (414 x 736 points @3x)
iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6S Plus

  • 5.4" (375 x 812 points @3x)
iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 12 mini

  • 4.7" (375 x 667 points @2x)
    iPhone SE (3rd & 2nd Gen), iPhone 8, iPhone 7, iPhone 6S

  • 4" (320 x 568 @2x)

App Store Screenshots

The screenshot requirements in App Store Connect have not changed for the new device sizes. This means you still need at least a 6.5" (1242 x 2688 pixel) and a 5.5" (1242 x 2208 pixel) screenshot which are then scaled for the remaining sizes you don’t supply.
